In recent years there has been a lot of new information about the plasticity of the human brain and that it is possible to create new ways of thinking. ‘Change your thinking’ is the common ‘catch cry’.

Yes, it is possible, definitely, but it is important to have a realistic view of change. We are accustomed to our habitual way, even if they are very uncomfortable and it is known, familiar territory.

It takes time for changes to become ingrained. Allow longer than you had hoped. Patience, persistence, and positivity are all important.

When you notice a relapse back to your old way of thinking, acknowledge it, but don’t beat yourself up!!

Focus on how far you have come. (recording your small steps can help) Give yourself credit for wanting to take the first important steps toward positive growth. Small steps, taken often, in the direction of your choosing are all worthy of acknowledgement. Over time these steps add up significantly. Don’t get discouraged! Old habits die hard but they DO DIE!!

It is worth the effort!! Give it a try! If you feel better about yourself then this influences all those around you in a positive way.
